The Mute Monkey’s Role
As the Mute Monkey, your responsibility is to read the bomb disposal manual and communicate the relevant answer to your team without speaking. The official game description identifies Mute as the only role with access to the manual and describes an emote wheel for communication. Review the tutorial and check your current control bindings before a round so you know which actions are available.
Who sees your gestures?
Your gestures are for the Deaf Monkey, not the Blind Monkey. Deaf can see and speak, so they turn your gestures into spoken instructions that Blind can hear.
- Mute: read the manual and communicate the answer with an in-game action or gesture.
- Deaf: watch Mute, interpret the gesture and say the instruction aloud.
- Blind: listen to the instruction and operate the bomb.
Deaf passes on your answer; they do not read the manual for you. Blind does not need to see your gesture.
Agree on signals before starting
The communication methods below are practical team-play recommendations. Choose the meanings of your signals together; they are not preset gesture commands supplied by the game.
Before a round, agree with the Deaf player how to say “wait,” “yes” and “no” using distinct actions available in your game. Practise once so you both understand them.
For example, if you are still looking up an answer, use your agreed “wait” signal. Deaf can then tell Blind to pause. When Deaf says your answer aloud, confirm that they understood it correctly before Blind acts. Agree separately on how to communicate that it is time to submit the module.
Read the manual one decision at a time
- Establish the module name and open its matching manual section.
- Collect the inputs the table requests. Signal “wait” if any are missing.
- Find the result before gesturing. Keep track of the current row in case you are interrupted.
- Signal one result and have the Deaf player repeat their interpretation aloud.
- Confirm or reject it before the Blind player acts.
- Get feedback after the action before moving to the next item.
During practice, use the module overview to identify the puzzle and consult your in-game manual for its rules. Track the current position, the information received and the confirmed answer to avoid losing your place.
Recover from misunderstandings
- Wrong interpretation: use the agreed rejection signal, then repeat only the current instruction.
- Mixed-up positions: return to your agreed starting position and read the sequence again.
- An interruption: restate the current position before continuing.
- An unfinished lookup: signal “wait”; silence should not mean approval.
Choosing signals and finding module answers
The developer allows teams to establish their own communication conventions, so agree on your signals before starting. For exact module answers, consult the manual in your installed game.
