The Switch module is a bomb module, not the Nintendo console. It has four switches. The four light colours select a table in the manual, the four Braille numbers are checked against that table's conditions, and each switch is set up or down before the team presses Enter.
What each player contributes
| Role | Information or action |
|---|---|
| Deaf | Names the module and its location, reads the four light colours from left to right and relays each switch direction to Blind. |
| Blind | Reads the four Braille numbers beneath the switches, sets each switch and presses Enter only when the team agrees. |
| Mute | Finds the table for the colour sequence, checks each number against its column's conditions and signals up or down for each switch. |
Step by step
- Confirm the panel. Deaf names the Switch module and its location and checks that Blind has found the correct panel.
- Read the light colours. Deaf reports all four light colours from left to right. Mute matches that exact sequence to one of the colour combinations in the current manual and selects its table.
- Read the Braille numbers. Blind reports the four Braille numbers beneath the switches, also from left to right. Keep each number paired with its light and switch position.
- Collect all four numbers first. Some conditions refer to the number beneath another light, and that number may come later in the sequence. Do not start evaluating until all four numbers are known.
- Check each column. Each table has two condition rows. For each switch, Mute checks its number against the conditions in that switch's column. The switch icon beside a row shows the direction to use when that row's condition is satisfied.
- Relay and set. Mute signals the direction for each switch with the team's agreed gestures. Deaf relays the switch number and direction to Blind, who sets it.
- Check, then submit. Recheck all four positions before pressing Enter.
How to read the conditions
| Condition in the manual | What it tests |
|---|---|
| Odd / Even | Whether the switch's number is odd or even |
| A list of digits | Whether the switch's number appears in that list |
| >5 or <5 | Whether the switch's number is greater or less than 5 |
| > or < with a coloured-light icon | Whether the switch's number is greater or less than the number beneath that light |
A comparison with a coloured light never compares against a colour. For example, > red light means "greater than the number beneath the red light". This is why the team needs the full set of numbers before deciding any switch.
A short example
The colours, numbers and conditions here are illustrative only; read the real ones from your current manual.
Suppose Deaf reads the lights as yellow, red, blue, green, and Mute finds the table for that sequence. Blind reads the Braille numbers 4, 7, 2, 9. Switch 3 has the number 2, and one of the condition rows in its column says > red light. The red light is second, and its number is 7. Because 2 is not greater than 7, that row's condition is not met. Mute then checks the other row in the same column; if its condition is met, its direction icon gives the answer for switch 3.
Mute signals "switch 3, down" (or up, as the icon shows). Deaf repeats it to Blind, and Blind sets switch 3. The team repeats this for the other three switches before anyone presses Enter.
Common mistakes
- Reading from opposite ends. Agree on left to right before anyone reports a colour or a number.
- Deciding too early. A condition may depend on the number beneath a light that has not been read yet. Collect all four numbers first.
- Comparing with the colour. "> red light" refers to the number beneath the red light, not to the colour itself.
- Losing the pairing. Keep each number tied to its light and switch position. Read the whole sequence back if anyone is unsure.
- Submitting by accident. "That is correct" should not mean "press Enter now". Agree on a separate signal for submitting.
